About
Brain collage, sans Oxford comma
Fashion is a business of beautiful surfaces. Alex reports on what’s underneath.
Alexandra Harrell is a fashion business reporter who follows products back to the science, labor, policy and financial decisions behind them. As the sustainability and innovation reporter at Sourcing Journal, she covers how research, regulation and manufacturing change what the industry makes—and what it can credibly claim.
Her reporting for Sourcing Journal and WWD moves between textile labs, legislative fights, corporate filings and the people expected to absorb the consequences. She is especially interested in the moments when science, money and accountability stop agreeing—and start competing. Her reporting has reached audiences beyond the trade press through national syndication and has been cited by the Law Library of Congress.
Her earlier career crossed other technical trades, including aerospace and defense at Aviation Week and the global music products business at Music Inc. Alex studied journalism and graphic design at Columbia College Chicago, a combination that still shapes how she interrogates a system and explains it.
